Laboratory of Cenozoic Geology

Head of the laboratory
Dr. Guzel Danukalova

The laboratory was re-established in March of 2006.
G.A. Danukalova is the Head of the Laboratory.
Laboratory conducts research in the field of stratigraphy of the Cenozoic – the creation and actualization of the stratigraphic schemes of the Paleogene, Neogene and Quaternary of the Southern Fore-Urals, Urals and Trans-Urals based on a detailed biostratigraphic study of sediments, their subdivision and correlation from the Caspian Sea to the Barents-Pechora basin, and from Westernmost Europe to the Far East.

The directions of the research:
1. Development of the stratigraphic schemes of the continental Neogene and Quaternary sediments of the Fore-Urals, Urals and Trans-Urals based on the mammalian, malacological, ostracods and palynological data.
2. Clarification of the evolution of the major groups of fauna and vegetation during the Neogene and Quaternary of the region.
3. Correlation of the main Neogene and Quaternary events of the different landscape and climatic zones.

The following specialists are working in the laboratory:
Head of Laboratory Dr. G. Danukalova (stratigraphy, malacology), Leading Researcher Dr. A. Yakovlev (theriology), Senior Researcher Dr. E. Osipova (malacology), Senior Researcher Dr. R. Kurmanov (palynology), Engineer E. Kondrova, and two technicians.
