Laboratory of Paleovolcanology and metallogeny

Sergei Evgenevich Znamenskii
The Head of Laboratory,
Doctor of Science

The Laboratory of Paleovolcanology and Metallogeny carries out complex fundamental research in the field of the theory of endogenous ore formation and paleovolcanology.

The Laboratory was organized in 1984. It consisted of employees of the Geochemistry and Ore Deposits Sector, established and managed in 1960-65 by P.F. Sopko; in the years 1965-70 – by V.A. Prokin (Laboratory of Endogenous Metallogeny) and in 1970-1983 again P.F. Sopko (Laboratory of Magmatism and Metallogeny). From 1983 to 2006 the Laboratory was headed by Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy I.B. Seravkin, in the years 2007-2012 – by Cand. of Sci. in Geology and Mineralogy A.M. Kosarev. At present, the team of the Laboratory is headed by Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy S.E. Znamensky.

Basic research activities of Laboratory:

  • petrological-geochemical study of volcanic complexes of the Southern Urals, paleovolcanological and geodynamic reconstructions;
  • structural and isotope-geochemical studies of gold deposits in the Southern Urals;
  • metallogenic studies of the Southern Urals and Kazakhstan;
  • development of geological-genetic models of gold ore, massive sulfide and copper-porphyry deposits of the Southern Urals.

The Laboratory consists of: Head of the Laboratory, Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy S.E. Znamensky, Chief Researcher, Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy I.B. Seravkin, Leading Researcher, Cand. of Sci. in Geology and Mineralogy A.M. Kosarev, Senior Researcher, Cand. of Sci. in Geology and Mineralogy G.T. Shafigullina, Researcher Assistant Z.I. Rodicheva, Junior Researcher Associate N.M. Znamenskaya, Junior Researcher Associate K.R. Minnibaeva, Laboratory Assistant Researcher Yu.N. Gagarin.
